FMD
The Temporary control zone has been lifted with negative results.
In the case of IP8 only one animal was showing clinical signs of FMD with lesions
approximately 2 days old and this has been supported by laboratory results. Therefore
hopefully there is little environment infection from this IP. The 4 DCs slaughtered are
all negative on clinical and laboratory tests.
The ScofCAH meeting yesterday made an announcement on the partial resumption of
trade in fresh meat. This will be in Annex 3.
Fresh meat will be able to be traded from Scotland, Wales, the English counties north
of and including Shropshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire and also Devon and
Cornwall.
Conditions include that the animals must have been resident in the area for the
previous 90 days, resident on the last farm for 30 days and no animals moved on to
the farm for 20 days. All animals must move directly to slaughter and must be
slaughtered within 24 hours of arrival. Meat has to held for a minimum of 24 hours
before shipping.
BT
To date there are 24 confirmed infected premises. The number of infected premises
will now be updated daily at 5pm on the
Defra website
. All except 2 cases are still in
a band north-south around Ipswich. The other 2 cases are in the Lowestoft area.
There are now 2 report cases of clinical signs in sheep. There are little details of the
clinical signs but thought to be mild.
The question of TB testing in the Bluetongue control area was raised. A risk
assessment is to be carried out.
Bluetongue can be spread between animals by the transfer of blood so care should be
taken by those practitioners in the area to ensure that new needles etc. are used for
each injection and blood is not transmitted between animals.
