VetSurgeon is sad to report that Sam Duff, a much loved figure in the profession, died last weekend.
Sam qualified from Edinburgh in 1970, and was a partner in mixed practice in Fife until 2002. More recently, he was a director of Equitique Ltd, an equine reproduction referral practice.
Sam was an active member of BVA Council, and its Member Services Group. He served on SPVS Council from 1993-2002, and was re-elected in 2003. He had recently been elected as Secretary of the Scottish branch of the BVA.
A memorial service will be held at 2.30pm on Thursday 9th July in Younger Hall, St Andrews.

I never actually met Sam, as he joined Andrew Orr`s practice shortly afterI left, but I heard a lot about him from locals. I may be wrong, but I think the new practice building in St Andrews is a partial testament to his career.
I would like it noted that Mr Orr died this year at a ripe old age, practically unheralded.Being an assistant there ,I gather, makes me one of legions, but I always found him a very pleasant , if (understandably) harrassed person. We had little in common, as he was keen on the horses and I did the small animals. Now I`m approaching retirement I think I can empathise more with him.
I regret the passing of them both. George Cooper
