Gingivitis is one of the commonest conditions treated in first opinion veterinary practice, characterised by reversible plaque induced inflammation of the gums.

Treatment is usually by polishing and scaling but the authors investigate the simultaneous use of topical muco-adhesive gel containing adelmidrol. Those treated with the gel had lower gingivitis index scores than those receiving scaling alone for up to 45 days. So the gel improved the regression of gingival inflammation and extended the therapeutic benefits of scaling.
