Experienced vet wanted for new Independent Practice opening end of June

Job Description

Cranbrook Vets is opening soon!

We are a small animal, Independent, 24/7 veterinary practice in the lovely town of Cranbrook, in Kent.

The Practice was originally established in 1946 and it had been a leading Independent accredited Hospital until 2019. After a period of closure, now it is ready to reopen and start serving the local community again! Situated in an enlisted Victorian building, refurbishment has been undertaken and it will open its door at the end of June. The Practice will consist of reception (with an original stone fireplace), separated cat and dog waiting areas, 3 consult rooms, pharmacy, preop room, theatre, dental suit with dental x-rays, imaging suit (with digital x-rays, new ultrasound machine and endoscopy), separated cats and dogs kennels (including walking-in kennel for big dogs), isolation unit/small ferries room and laboratory (with Idexx machines). At the first floor there is a kitchen and a living room for the staff.

The Lead Vet and the Head Nurse are working directors and are keen to offer a high standard, affordable, 24/7 service to the local community. The lead vet brings years of GP experience and mentoring, having worked in different UK locations including managing a big team in a busy hospital. She holds a Certificate in Surgery and a keen interested in ECC and pain management.

We are currently recruiting for a second experienced vet to join the team. The role will be a full-time GP role, with on-call duty. There is a lack of OOH providers in the area so we want to offer a 24/7 service. A nurse will be on site and the vet will be called if needed; the lead vet lives in the building and I will be available to help and support. The rota pattern is still on the making and open to discussion, but some Saturday cover will be required. The salary is negotiable and depending on out of hours commitment; from £50-55k/year for a 3-4 years graduated to £75k+ for an experienced vet with further qualifications, with the first review after six months.

This is a great opportunity for a vet looking for a fresh start, with lots of possibilities and with the promise that you will be listened to. All of us had bad experiences in the past, so we want to build a work environment where people are happy to come to work and where they feel appreciated. Building the right team is my priority!

Cranbrook is a lovely town in the Kent countryside. Owning a car may be advised but it is not required for the role because it is a one site only. The closest train stations are Marden and Staplehurst, from where you can reach London Bridge in just under one hour. This is a beautiful area of the Country, plenty of outdoor activities and historical landmarks (Sissinghurst Castle is next door). Maidstone is half an hour away, as it is Rye and the South coast.
