Sandrine, ovariectomy is fine in the absence of symptomatic uterine dx, whatever the age. And the Ligasure, or equivalent, is fine in larger fatter ovarian pedicels, although slower. It's a nice piece of kit. (Comment first posted Wed, Aug 13 2014)
As with the mask i use a tape on the bridge of the nose to avoid my glasses from fogging. (Comment first posted Tue, Aug 12 2014)
I usually remove just the ovaries in young and older dogs. (Comment first posted Tue, Aug 12 2014)
This is amazing how you can coagulate the vessels without burning the surrounding. This is probably for young females. Older dogs wouldn't be that indicated, would it be ?

Good question about the mask. The evidence base for mask use at all is very slim. However I believe it is a PSS requirement. As a spectacles wearer, this is my compromise. Theories to justify mask use are to stop the surgeon inhaling infected material, not a frequent concern in small animal UK practice, and to stop the surgeon spitting on the operative site.
Forgive me for being very stupid, but what exactly is the point of wearing a mask over your mouth but not your nose? (Comment first posted Mon, Aug 11 2014)
