Female parrots occasionally present in extremis and palpation combined with radiography will often confirm the presence of a shelled egg that the bird is unable to pass.
It is important to stabilise the bird as in many cases this will allow the bird to pass the egg naturally without any further intervention.
If intervention is warranted the bird will be a better surgical candidate if it has been stabilised.
In this case, fluid therapy, Calcium administration, the application of prostaglandin gel, warmth and quiet allowed this grey parrot to pass the egg naturally.
